Through Young Reporter’s Eyes: Food, Performances, and Culture at the Washington Chinese Festival

What I learned at the 24th Washington Chinese Festival                                                 Reported by Claire Zhou

The 24th Washington Chinese Cultural Festival was a wondrous festival of Chinese arts, Asian foods, and traditional Chinese crafts.  As a youth reporter from YouthTalks, I had the chance to explore the celebration, interview Booth Owners, and performers.  It was an awesome time while I found myself in a cultural world of tradition and vibrancy. 

In the busy food court, I interviewed vendors at the Mooncake and Dessert Booths.  The mooncakes were yellow and golden brown.  It was so tempting to eat! At the Dessert Booth, they sold fruit ice creams, cotton candy, and hawthorn juice.  The ice creams looked crunchy and delicate on the outside, but the inside was actually soft vanilla cream!  The cotton candy was amazingly fluffy and when it touched my mouth, it would almost instantly dissolve.  The Hawthorn juice was sweet, tasted like cranberries, and was a bit tart.  I love how the hawthorn juice tingled in my mouth.  The tartness had completely balanced the sweetness.  This booth deserves a five star rating!

I also interviewed the Lion Dancers. They said that their performance contained elements of kung-fu, which is an ancient Chinese martial art.  This dance was practiced with deep heritage.  Watching them dance on the big stage taught me that the performance was far more than entertainment; it was the dancers trying to represent their own culture.Out of everything I had saw, the beautiful lion dance was the one I will remember most. It was loud, energetic, crazy, and incredible to watch.

Overall, the 24th Washington Chinese Cultural Festival had an excellent job of bringing Chinese communities together with food, music, and fun crafts.

第24届华盛顿中国文化节是一场精彩纷呈的文化盛会，汇集了中华艺术、亚洲美食和中国传统手工艺。作为一名来自 YouthTalks 的小记者，我有机会探索丰富多彩的节日现场，并采访摊位负责人和表演者。在这个充满传统与活力的文化世界里，我度过了一段非常美好的时光。

在热闹的美食区，我采访了月饼摊位和甜品摊位的负责人。月饼呈黄色和金棕色，看起来十分诱人，让人忍不住想尝一口！甜品摊位出售水果冰淇淋、棉花糖和山楂汁。水果冰淇淋的外层看起来酥脆而精致，里面却是柔软的香草奶油。棉花糖非常蓬松，一放进嘴里几乎立刻就融化了。山楂汁香甜可口，味道有点像蔓越莓，还带着一丝酸味。我很喜欢山楂汁在口中带来的独特感觉，恰到好处的酸味平衡了它的甜味。这个摊位值得五颗星的好评！

我还采访了舞狮表演者。他们告诉我，舞狮表演融入了中国古老武术——功夫的元素。这项表演承载着深厚的文化传统。观看他们在大舞台上的演出让我认识到，舞狮不仅仅是一种娱乐，更是表演者展现和传承自身文化的一种方式。在我当天看到的所有节目中，精彩的舞狮表演最令我难忘。现场锣鼓喧天，表演充满活力、激情四射，令人惊叹。

总的来说，第24届华盛顿中国文化节通过美食、音乐和有趣的传统手工艺活动，将华人社区凝聚在一起，充分展现了中华文化的丰富魅力。

My Day at the Chinese Washington Festival

The Washington Chinese Festival was a fun and interesting event filled with food, music, decorations, and people celebrating Chinese culture. As a reporter, my job was to observe whatwas happening, take notes, and report on people’s opinions at the festival.

Upon arrival, I noticed the numerous booths offering traditional Chinese food, crafts, and other activities. The festival was busy, and families and friends were enjoying their time together.

One of my favorite parts was watching the performances. There were traditional music anddancing, and someone I spoke to even told me that the dancers did a backflip! The performers worked very hard to entertain the crowd. Everyone seemed interested in learning about the traditions being shown.

I also talked to people about why they came to the festival. Some people came to celebrate their Chinese heritage, while others wanted to learn more about Chinese culture. I learned that events like this are a great way for people to share their traditions with others.

By the end of the day, I had learned a lot and had plenty of notes for my report. TheWashington Chinese Festival showed me how celebrations can bring people together and help us learn about different cultures. It was a memorable experience and an interesting day to spend as a reporter.

华盛顿中国文化节是一场充满欢乐与趣味的活动。现场有美食、音乐和各种装饰，人们欢聚在一起，共同庆祝中华文化。作为一名小记者，我的任务是观察现场发生的事情、认真记录，并报道人们对文化节的看法。

到达现场后，我看到许多展位，提供中国传统美食、手工艺品和丰富多彩的体验活动。文化节十分热闹，家人和朋友们欢聚一堂，享受着美好的节日时光。

我最喜欢的环节之一是观看现场表演。舞台上有传统音乐和舞蹈，一位受访者甚至告诉我，有舞蹈演员在表演中完成了后空翻！演员们为给观众带来精彩的节目付出了很多努力。大家似乎都很有兴趣了解表演中所呈现的中国传统文化。

我还采访了人们参加文化节的原因。有些人是为了庆祝和传承自己的中华文化，有些人则希望进一步了解中国文化。我认识到，这样的活动为人们提供了一个向他人分享自身传统文化的好机会。

一天结束时，我学到了许多知识，也为自己的报道记录了丰富的素材。华盛顿中国文化节让我看到，节庆活动能够把人们聚集在一起，并帮助我们了解不同的文化。对我来说，这是一次难忘的经历，也是作为小记者度过的充实而有趣的一天。
